The Caretaker, James Mcrae, And His Family Resided On The 3rd Floor. Scantily Clad, They Crawled Out On The Roof And Were Rescued By The Firefighters. Fire Halls 1,2,3,5, & 6 Respond To The Call. Great Precautions Were Taken To Keep Flames From Extending To Eatons Store Across The Street. Two Lines Of Hose Were Supplied By T. Eaton Co, While The Fire Was At Its Height. The Ederton Block Was Of Modern Construction And Was Considered Almost Fireproof. It Ws Built In 1906 And Valued At $140,000. Steel Laths Were Used In The Construction And The Firemen Were Hampered In Their Efforts By The Difficulty Of Penetrationg Them To Get At The Fire |
